Rural Life in Nepal (video)

Nepal is an impoverished country whose lack of economic development is directly related to the lack of access to education. Unable to read or write, many Nepalese are unable to advance themselves beyond jobs of menial labor and subsistence agriculture.

Lack of education is a result of many factors. In general, education is neither valued nor accessible in Nepal. Most are skeptical of the usefulness of education, and even those inclined to pursue it find it difficult, if not impossible to do so. The majority of Nepalese live in small rural villages in the countryside where village schools rarely offer classes higher than the sixth grade level. Middle schools and high schools are few and far. Most children who do attend the school drop out before reaching the fifth grade, due to their inability to meet the financial requirements. The financial straits of most Nepalese force education to take a backseat to the more pressing challenges of day-to-day survival . Instead of attending school, children work or beg. Ignorant to the benefits that education would provide, the parents do not seek for their children. Thus, the cycle of poverty continues.

More recently, political instability within Nepal has plunged much of the countryside into chaos, resulting in the closure of many schools. Young people have left their homes to fight, taking with them their families last chance to climb out of poverty. Over half of Nepal’s population is under 18 years of age and with these young people so ill prepared to deal with the problems that plague their country, the future of Nepal looks bleak.Video @Rupakgajurel

Russian Biker Girl

Actually, the dude wasn’t running from the cops. He had no idea there was even a cop behind him until he got to the light which is where he was starting to pull over. The cop was charged for excessive use of force and sued for $180,000 which the biker won. Justin Wilkins was recently awarded a payout for a 2012 incident involving Oregon police officer Captain Rob Edwards. Wilkins received the payout when it was confirmed the cop kicked him in the chest.

Edwards was on patrol in an unmarked police vehicle when Wilkins passed him on a solid line. Edwards pursued the reckless biker for nearly five minutes, during which the biker can be seen on police dashcam footage weaving in and out of cars.

The biker was forced to slow down a bit as he approached an intersection. Edwards comes to a stop as well, but not before knocking the biker to the ground.

The officer’s adrenaline may have played too big of a role and landed him on the defendant’s side of the courtroom. Edwards stepped out of the patrol car, drew his weapon and kicked Wilkins in the chest before putting the biker in cuffs.

Wilkins suffered a broken clavicle and fractured rib but the $180,000 from the excessive use of force claim likely has him feeling better.

Interview with PM K P Sharma Oli in Indian media

India was forced to change its policy towards Nepal under international criticism of a crippling blockade led by Madhesis due to which their months- long violent agitation fizzled out and lost relevance, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has said. Presenting a 12-page political document during the ongoing CPN-UML party politburo meeting, party chairman Oli said that India changed its policy of supporting the Madhesi movement following international criticism during the ‘unofficial’ b .. The international community was critical of India’s approach to Nepal and exerted pressure on it, Oli said in his document.”India, then, changed its policy as it could not sustain backing the Madhesis further,” he said. The Madhesis, largely of Indian-origin, launched a violent agitation in September last year when the new Constitution was announced, saying the statute failed to address their concerns. - See more at: http://www.npnewsportal.com/interview-with-pm-k-p-sharma-oli-in-indian-media/#sthash.cvTEeBA7.dpuf

The real face of prachanda

Prachanda, byname of Pushpa Kamal Dahal (born Dec. 11, 1954, Lewadi, Nepal) Nepali rebel leader and politician who headed the Maoist insurgency that ended Nepal’s monarchy and established the country as a democratic republic, which he served as its first prime minister (2008–09).

Pushpa Kamal Dahal was born into a poor farming family in the mountainous Kaski district of central Nepal. At age 11 he moved with his family to Chitwan district, where a schoolteacher indoctrinated him in communism. In 1975 he graduated from the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science in Rampur, Chitwan district.

In 1980 Prachanda (a nom de guerre meaning “fierce”) was tasked with leading the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (Revolutionary), which was affiliated with the radical Communist Party of Nepal (Masal), or CPN (Masal [meaning “flame” in Nepalese]). In 1983 he was elected to the central committee of the CPN (Masal), which soon split into the CPN (Masal) and the CPN (Fourth Convention). In 1985 the CPN (Masal) divided again, into the CPN (Masal) and the CPN (Mashal [“flame” in Sanskrit]). Prachanda joined the latter, becoming a member of the politburo and rising to the position of general secretary in 1989. Several leftist parties merged in 1990 to form the CPN (Unity Centre), with Prachanda as a general secretary, but in 1994 it also split in two. In March 1995 Prachanda renamed his branch to reflect its Maoist leanings—the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist).

Sanitary Pad Is Shame? : Social Experiment

How many gazillions of years can we set feminism back in a mere minute? Well, friends, thanks to this fat-shaming sanitary pad commercial, we have a foolproof way to derail all progress our feminist role models have made in the past century in under ten seconds! The shockingly offensive ad for SOFY BeFresh menstrual pads is currently airing in Australia, and it’s like watching a car crash that just keeps crashing forever. It starts with a woman staring into her mirror at her supposed “period counterpart” — only the person she sees in the mirror is several sizes larger than she is, and a borderline-psychotic mess who makes Gone Girl look like Goldilocks. And yeesh almighty, everyone, it only gets worse from there.

The period counterpart goes through a long and increasingly ridiculous montage wherein she insults her cat, pines for a man, entirely loses all self-awareness, threatens a pizza guy, and basically has the IQ, attention span, and temperance of a bratty three-year-old child. That’s right — it’s not enough that women are constantly under unfair scrutiny about menstruation in their personal lives, in their workplaces, and even in political forums. Now the people who are selling us the products for them can’t stop themselves from massively insulting us.

New Nepali Teej Song – Dumsi Kade Junga – Jyoti Magar -

Guaranteed vs. Non-Guaranteed Permanent Life Insurance Policies
Fifty years ago, most life insurance policies sold were guaranteed and offered by mutual fund companies. Choices were limited to term, endowment or whole life policies. It was simple, you paid a high, set premium and the insurance company guaranteed the death benefit. All of that changed in the 1980s. Interest rates soared, and policy owners surrendered their coverage to invest the cash value in higher interest paying non-insurance products. To compete, insurers began offering interest-sensitive non-guaranteed policies.

Guaranteed versus Non-Guaranteed Policies
Today, companies offer a broad range of guaranteed and non-guaranteed life insurance policies. A guaranteed policy is one in which the insurer assumes all the risk and contractually guarantees the death benefit in exchange for a set premium payment. If investments underperform or expenses go up, the insurer has to absorb the loss. With a non-guaranteed policy the owner, in exchange for a lower premium and possibly better return, is assuming much of the investment risk as well as giving the insurer the right to increase policy fees. If things don’t work out as planned, the policy owner has to absorb the cost and pay a higher premium.

Serious Joke । Prachand's Speech

After deciding to pull out of the government, the CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal sent a letter to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The letter ended the nearly nine-month-long UML-Maoist partnership, pushing the current Oli-led government into minority on Tuesday. Here is an unofficial translation of the letter.Confusion has appeared due to lack of clear constitutional provision on the situation that has resulted with the withdrawal of support to the incumbent coalition government by a major ruling ally. The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) had pulled out its support to the government today allegedly for the ruling party CPN-UML’s reluctance to implement the nine-point and three-point agreements signed with the party. Article 100(2) of the Constitution of Nepal has the provision that the Prime Minister should table a motion to gain vote of trust in the parliament within 30 days if the party represented by the PM is split and other ruling party withdraws support resulting the coalition in minority. However, some lawmakers have asserted that the constitutional provision could not be effective at the moment until there is no election of the House of Representatives. Constitutional law expert Nilambar Acharya said as the incumbent government was formed as per the transitional provision of the constitution Article 100 would not be active at the moment. There is the provision of the formation of Council of Ministers under the transitional provision in Article 298 of the Constitution.

Bijukchhe said that India wanted to topple the Oli government which was planning to ensure an early visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Massive Flood in Bhotekoshi River

Posted by Anup Baral July 13, 2016 :
As many as 100 families of the Tatopani area, a major transit point between Nepal and China, have fled their settlements in search of safer locations after the Bhotekoshi river swollen by incessant rainfall caused massive land erosion. According to police, people living near the banks of Bhotekoshi and Sunkoshi rivers are at high risk. The Jure-Tatopani stretch of the Araniko Highway has been obstructed after road sections at various parts were swept away by the flood in the Bhotekoshi river. Locals said the flooded Bhotekoshi river has been massively eroding land in the Khorsanibari area along the Araniko Highway.

Bishnu Prasad Shrestha, a local of Tatopani, said local authorities should take immediate measures to save lives and properties. Armed Police Force (APF) DSP Manoj Thapa said land erosion in Tatopani and Liping due to the swollen river continued on Thursday as well. At least 25 houses were swept away by flash flood in the Bhotekoshi river due to rains since Tuesday night.

PM Kp Sharma Oli Speech

The CPN (Maoist Center) on Tuesday decided to withdraw its support to the KP Sharma Oli-led government. “As the leader of the Parliamentary Party of CPN (Maoist Center), Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has withdrawn the party’s support to the current government,” said a leader of the party, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi. A meeting of the CPN (Maoist Center) Headquarters held yesterday had authorized Dahal to take the decision on whether to continue supporting the current government. With the decision, the party has also recalled the ministers representing the party in the current government.

Pm Oli in crisis as CPN(M-C) decides to withdraw support

We must find out cause' of fatal Italy train collision, says Renzi

witness described as an "apocalyptic scene".
Coffins were taken to the site near the city of Bari to carry away the first of the dead as 200 rescue workers sifted through the wreckage in temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit)

"I saw dead people, others who were begging for help, people crying. The worst scene of my life," one policeman told journalists. Vito Montanaro, director general of the Bari heath authority, said 20 people had died and 35 were injured, 18 of them critically. "It was an enormous accident, a very violent crash," said Transport Minister Graziano Delrio, who arrived on at the scene along with two ministry inspectors to aid the investigation. The collision happened on a bend in the track in open countryside and flung the front carriages of both trains into olive groves bordering the line, slinging bits of metal from the wreckage. "It's an apocalyptic scene, it was hard not to vomit on first sight," said local journalist Lucia Olivieri who works for Andria Live.it, adding that rescue workers feared people may still be trapped. - Crumpled carriages - Riccardo Zingaro, head of traffic police in Andria, said the yellow and blue carriages of the commuter trains were "utterly crumpled". Local hospitals issued a request on social networks for blood donors to come forward to help the injured. Paramedics set up an impromptu medical centre among the olive trees, with three helicopters airlifting out the most seriously hurt victims, including one young boy. There were also psychologists on hand to help survivors. Many of the passengers on one of the trains had been students heading to lessons at the University of Bari and travellers on their way to Bari international airport. Relatives had arrived at the scene looking for news of their loved ones. - 'Moment for tears' - Investigators said at least one of the trains had been travelling very fast, and it was possible the collision was caused by human error. One of the four-carriage trains was supposed to have waited at a station for a green light before heading down the single track between the towns of Corato and Andria. Prime Minister Matteo Renzi interrupted a speech in Milan to say the country would "not stop until we know what happened". "This is a moment for tears in which we need to work to recover the victims and wounded," he added. Renzi said he was returning immediately to Rome following the collision. The trains were operated by private railway company Ferrotramviaria rather than the national railway operator Trenitalia. Italy's last major transport incident in 2013 left 38 people dead after a coach ran off the road and plunged into a viaduct. In 2009, 29 people died after a train carrying gas derailed, sparking an explosion. - See more at: http://www.aajakokhabar.com.np/news-details.php?nid=4886#sthash.L6lBfJsb.dpuf

Tribunal rules against Beijing in South China Sea dispute

An international tribunal ruled on Tuesday against China's claims it had "historical rights" in the South China Sea in a bitter dispute that risks further stoking regional tensions.

A UN-backed tribunal is on Tuesday expected to deliver its verdict on a Philippine challenge over Chinese-occupied territory in the South China Sea. China claims most of the sea, even waters approaching neighbouring countries, based on a vaguely defined "nine-dash-line" found on a 1940s Chinese map. The Philippines, and other countries, dispute this claim.

Educated Artists in Nepali Film Industry

The history of Nepali movies is not that long but it has grown a lot in recent days. Movie industry is one of the most creative industry and it demands the most creative crews to work for it. But to our disappointment, only a few Nepali involved in the industry have a university degree. A sad truth is that 60% of the Nepali film artists haven’t passed 10th grade.
It is seen that educated artists have succeeded in their fields as compared to uneducated artists. When we talk about education Rajesh Hamal, with a MA degree in English literature, comes the first due to his education and acting skills. There are many who don’t like him but it is undisputed that he is a super-hit actor of Nepali film industry.

Earthquake lurking under India and Bangladesh: 140 million lives at risk

A huge earthquake may be building beneath Bangladesh, which can turn urban areas in eastern India into “ruins”, a new study has warned. Scientists said they have new evidence of increasing strain where two tectonic plates underlie the world’s largest river delta. At least 140 million people in the region could be affected if the boundary ruptures; the destruction could come not only from the direct results of shaking, but changes in the courses of great rivers, and in the level of land already perilously close to sea level.

She was not even told straight away that her newborn child had no arms or legs after his birth. Mimi said, ‘The midwife said everything was normal. She said, he’s good, normal, healthy. I gave birth in the middle of the night and was told the next afternoon.’ Mimi was shocked when she first heard the news but she quickly adjusted to her son’s condition. And he acceptance is what has contributed to Tiyo’s outgoing personality. She added, ‘I was surprised. I thought he would be normal like my other children then I have the youngest in that condition. Now I feel fine, just normal about it and accepting.’ Mimi along with her husband Wawan says that looking after Tiyo is a full-time job. The four adult children of theirs live across Indonesia and therefore aren’t able to help with the daily care needs.Lack of Tiyo’s mobility means Wawan and Mimi still need to help him do everything from getting washed and dressed to feeding even though he is able to do many things by himself which include unwrapping sweet wrappers with his mouth.
